After five years of making the best juice on the market, Gundalow Juice will be closing on September 22nd. We can't thank you all enough for the years of support, patronage, and memories you have brought me and the Gundalow Juice Team. The decision to close Gundalow Juice was not an easy one, in fact, it is heartbreaking, but I can either focus on the sadness of closing or the happiness that you all brought us each and every day. We are definitely choosing the latter.
I never could have dreamt what Gundalow Juice would bring into my life. It has brought countless opportunities, knowledge in areas I had no idea existed, a very unique skill set, incredibly hardworking people who would juice until 2 am (and sometimes the juicing would begin at 2 am), a great excuse to work with my mom, and countless friendships and partnerships. Every farmer's market and demo event was special and always surreal. I can't describe what it's like when you craft something and then people who you don't know are wanting what you have created. Being in line at Atwater's seeing someone picking up Gundalow Juice to purchase with their lunch made me do a major happy dance, and while I tried to talk myself into being chill about it, I always ended up introducing myself and telling them how much I appreciate them supporting us (I'm pretty sure they were like, "Can I go eat my lunch now?").
Gundalow Juice has always been created and held up by the most amazing of people. I am so proud of all of our teams who worked tirelessly to create something amazing that made people feel great. I am so lucky to have met and have worked with these amazing individuals over the years, and my life is forever changed because of them. Together we built something that was a first. We are the first licensed, wholesaling cold-pressed juice company in Maryland and though that might sound boring, it took a lot of time, energy, and maneuvering to achieve that. It also made room for other's to enter the space in Maryland and thus promoted small business. I am also so proud that we never compromised our product for the sake of making money, we always made our juice to be pure and only fruits and vegetables, nothing else added to it, the same as day one.
Juice has been really fun and amazing, but it's time for some other projects to take the lead. I have another business, Gundalow Gourmet that is growing and booming with an awesome team of seven women and we need to cultivate and nurture that growth in a sustainable and viable way. Also, Gundalow Juice has shown me how important the promotion of female entrepreneurship is and I believe it is important to mentor and consult other awesome females growing businesses that are changing the world. I am excited to be making this a priority to help nurture others, as many have also helped me along the way.
Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you. I love you all and am so grateful for every moment of your time that you gave us. We will be at the Fells Point market on September 22nd so please come and visit us! We will have our remaining juice for sale and at the end of it all maybe we will have some bubbly! It will be a celebration of what was created, not a Debby-downer type of day.
And to all of those that think this is an ending, I have one thing to tell you: We are just getting started.
Chapter 3 is going to be a real badass one.
Now in true Dana fashion, I leave you with a Taylor Swift quote, because I love her and we listened to a lot of TSwift in the juicing room, so it is only fitting:
"Long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life
Fighting dragons with you
I was screaming, "long live the look on your face"
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered"
Always sail windward,
Dana Sicko, Founder
